Well I screwed up but then came up with a solution. I had the bright idea that I would buy a few dirt cheap (they sent 4) and I would add the black pin stripe and outer ring and presto! But then I noticed the screw hole orientation ugh!!!

So now the new plan is rather than have the timing plate screwed in then this riveted over it Ill just run some black button head allen screws at the 9 and 3 o'clock positions holding both the plate and cover at the same time. A keen eye will notice that detail but they might notice the rest of the incorrect parts first.

Altering and checking timing will be easier too.

Or, drill 2 clearance holes in the "inside" plate and just run fresh pop rivets at 12 and 6 only on the outer cover (for looks). I have seen a few old Shovels done this way.

what you have will bolt into the standoffs for the ignition to bolt into the cone - its double sided one side male the other for the cover female - with 8 32 screws we use stainless

if you want to use the vertical old one drill and tap the steel reinforcement to 8 32 and the use taper heads under the plate

I considered that right away except I dont want 4 fasteners showing. Figured two black fasteners would give the illusion it was correct.

I've got one on my chopper too - it came on my first 82FXR. I have to decide what bike to put it on. Probably will move it to the 79 FXS when I feel like fooling with it.

Yeah, it does look a bit cluttered with 4 fasteners.

Always wanted a bike with an open primary. Might kick myself for going kicker only but the added space allows me the freedom to do other things I have in mind.
