2 things a fixed sprocket was tried by Harley for many years - they went to the compensator so the lower unit did not hammer back and forth at low speeds in the wrong gear - you might want to visit that idea again
the in and out primary's always look the beast when a light polish is put on them to match the lower legs is a light shine - we polish and then wash them with Dawn dishwashing soap the blue one with the duck of the front - it tones it back just a bit - and doubles as really great hand soap for the shop - crewd oiled ducks also agree

I have an extra compensator because my original one wasn't great so I can install that if needed.
Some things I need to try for myself rather than just follow suggestions but I appreciate the sage advice. If I dont like it I have no problem admitting it and Ill put the compensator back in.
I have the lowers sitting here and figured they should match the primary. On my particular bike the outer was chromed at some point which Ill keep for now. The bike will be a work in progress, evolving after its completed. I could end up with an open primary just because I need to scratch that itch. Im going to run the wide glide headlight but could end up with the FL nacelle down the road.

This is one area of the bike where Ive flip-flopped the most and still mid flop. 2 paths to go, one is the stock primary and electric start or lose the battery, starter and go open primary. I have this need for a bike with an open primary, almost did it on my road king but I dont think thats the right bike for one. Can't do it to my 66 either. If I go open primary that frees up some space allowing me to relocate the oil tank inboard if not replace it completely.

I like weighing things so I wanted to see how much of an impact it would have losing the primary and starter combo. Not including the clutch pack, solenoid, compensator, wiring and battery tray, 56 lbs sitting right there so 60lbs isn't unreasonable, maybe a touch more. I don't imagine the BDL kicker only kit will be very heavy and Ill weigh it as well and deduct it from the 60lb reduction. Ill weigh the bike when its done, curious to see what it comes in at.
