So how much oil can this thing sump?
how much oil could be in the bottom end after 4-5 months on the lift the oil tank is onlmost dry and I'm pretty sure it was fullish when it went on the lift.
just a few more things I need to do and it is ready to fire up.
Is it ok to fire up with no oil in the tank?

Left long enough it can sump the entire amount in the tank. If it is sumping you will need to clean and reseat the check valve. Luckily for me my 77 doesn't sump.... If all the oil is in the case I would pull the coil positive wire and crank it for 30 seconds then stop... Waite a few minutes and do it again. You might need to hook up a battery charger to maintain enough power to crank... Be careful not to over heat the starter. After doing this twice check the oil level. Check your oil level, it should've came up and you might be good to go....
