Default tube only for 81 flh spoke mag rim???

Read the little label on my spoke mag rim on my 81 FLH - says to use on HD TTT tires - WTF - do you use tubes with these rims? there aint no tube in the rear tire and it is a cheapo KENDA POS Challenger - is death near if I ride this on the highway? really - mag rims that require tubes - REALLY

here is a pic of the front wheel on the bike

tubes were used in nylon tires and in 81 they were still available, today tires are more robust even radial none was available

and air pressures were lower 18 front 22 rear single rider 2 up increase by 2 or 3 pounds

today 35 / 40 psi is normal

so does that mean that this rim is designed to require a tube? will a modern Dunlop D402 deal up on this rim? it is odd that the little tag on the rim states use only TTT tires - I was ready to mount a new Dunlop when I saw he tag and then asked a few older guys I know about this - they claimed the modern tires dont seal correctly on these rims and there is a risk of the tire shittin the pony if I hit a pothole n the freeway

the FXE had the 9 or 13 spoke as I recall - did you have the same "turbine" style mags as mine?

You will find out why they say to use a tube when you remove the tire

I've only owned one bike with mags - rims were pristine when I removed the tires from my 79 sporty - but I'm thinking you expect me to find the lips all effed up and crusty

I ran tubes in the early mags anyway had a couple that would not hold air otherwise. Always suspected porosity issues with the castings. Won't kill you so give it a try without and tires are much better made today.

I've been running Elite 3s tubeless on my 82 for years, no problems.
