Oil pipe/Exhaust pipe

Oil pipe/Exhaust pipe
I recently purchased a 1981 FLTC Tour Glide Classic. I decided to change all the fluids and started with the oil. While I was draining the oil, I noticed that one of the oil lines is partly steel pipe and the pipe is hose clamped to the rear cylinder exhaust pipe. My first thought was that it was a bad idea. I assumed a previous owner or mechanic had needed a place to attach some support for the oil line and had picked the exhaust pipe. But then I was browsing Ebay for FLT parts and came across a used complete original exhaust system and it too had a small pipe hose clamped to the rear pipe. So I'm now guessing that it is to aid warm up of the oil. But it seems to me that as you ride, it is going to continue to add heat to the oil. Anybody else think this is odd?

Thanks for the reply. Upon closer inspection, one end of the pipe is connected via rubber hose to the bottom of the crankcase and the other end is connected via rubber hose to the atmosphere. So maybe to prevent condensation being expelled from the engine from freezing in the pipe during cold weather riding?

Originally it continued on to the air filter...first time the engine sumped and puked oil on someones leg, they removed that hose. I believe it was some vain attempt to vaporize the oil mist before it got to the air filter.

Today I completed the transformation of my 2012 XL1200C. I wanted the beefy front end of the 16-18 48’s, so I got to work..
I was able to retain my front fender from the custom, my speedo, and all electrical on the bars..
Parts for the job:
16-18 Complete 49mm front end
2014 48 seat
2013 48 wheels
2012 Nightster rear fender
All in all, I really like the look, a fat tank 58 (if you will)
This is the bike HD should have made.. The CUSTOM

Customizing early
I got my 2018 iron 883 on Sunday and today Amazon delivered my "Daymaker" and switch back LEDs for the front. I stopped by the dealership again to schedule an appointment to fix the left rear taillight that doesn't work and noticed they sell smoked turn signal caps for 10 bucks so I got those there with the reward points they gave me for buying the bike. Makes a giant difference as opposed to riding at night with a half-lit candle at the front. (I realigned the front turn signals after the photo, lol) .. And yeah that's my roommates fat Bob in the background
