Transmission oil change Drain plug
Started to Change the oil in tranny original 1974 4 speed transmission drain plug broke lose fine and was able to finger loosen about 4-5 turns then if tighten up needed a socket to turn further so i stopped screwed back in and left it alone not wanting to mess up the threads. Anyone have any thoughts on this I would think that if it loosen up to start it would be fine the bike is a 1974 FLH Electra Glide 94,000 miles change the tranny oil 2 years ago don't remember having a problems than

the alloy is stretched a bit and will make a mess of the threads as i have seen, - a re tap with the heli coil or a self tapping thread trans in place
then when we have the unit out and apart we weld it up totally and re drill but this time with a 1/8 taper pipe thread that will last a lot longer and has a magnet in its end

Thank You I did not go any further with it. I knew it was not a good idea to keep going with it so I tighten the drain plug back up I siphon the old oil out and refilled with new. In the fall I will dissemble and repair it the right way by filling and re tapping as you suggested
Thank you
