Question Cruise Control Failure and Check Engine Light

My new 2012 Road Glide CVO is having intermittent issues with the Cruise Control and Check Engine Light. The cruise control works for a while the will accelerate all by itself. The Check Engine light will come on then the cruise control will not work at all.
Has anyone else experienced this issue? What was the solution. I have an appointment at the local Harley shop but not until Wed and I would like to know a bit more about it before I get to the harley shop.
Thanks, Carl

That is a strange problem but it needs to be corrected before you get hurt.
Keep us posted so we all can learn

Unhappy Weird!

I've heard of things that you wouldn't think would affect the operation of the cruise control but they do. They usually just shut it down and make it inoperable. I've never heard of an issue that causes the cruise to accelerate the motorcycle on its own. Scary!
I'm assuming it only does this when the cruise control is on?
Yeah, it sucks that a brand new motorcycle, especially a CVO, would have issues like this but, **** happens.
Get it back to the dealer ASAP. They'll make it right.
Good luck. Definetly let us know what they find.

throttle actuator is going bad, I'd bet. but it can be anything. self acceleration is a very bad thing and I would be very careful about riding it until it is resolved, be ready to pull in that clutch!!

actually thinking about it, I am surprised HD isn't coming and picking that bike up from you, that is a very dangerous situation, and I would call the dealer, and the customer service line and address this issue unintended acceleration kills people, both in cars and bikes, I would definitely have them pic it up, especially on a '12 model

First time it happened on my '11 FLTRUSE I disconnected and reconnected the cruise control connector under the seat. It worked for a few months till I decided to change seats.

The new seat crushed the cruise control connector under the seat, me not being careful enough when installing the new seat.

Dealership found the problem and replaced the connector at no cost. It's been trouble free for several months and several thousand miles now.

I had the exact same thing happen to my Road Glide while on the way back from Oregon. Turned out to be the the switch. Had my dealer replace it and no more problems. By switch I mean the handle bar switch, not the on/off switch on the console.

I can't speak for the self-accelerating issue, but when my rear brake light switch failed, the Check Engine light came on, and the cruise was inoperable. Changing the rear brake switch solved both problems.

Cool CVO Issue

I just went thru the middle of nowhere Wyoming when my volt reg. went out or so we thought. Found out that there had been a recall (which I had not gotten yet) on all touring Volt Reg.'s. Got onethe next morning ( $160 at the dealership and $350 by the time I got it in Worland, WY) and guess what? That was not the issue...the stator had fried!!! What they had told us not to touch from the dealership! Two tows later got into Gillette and got her fixed! The heat from that 110 is causing lots of electrical issues from what I have heard from outside sources.

any ideas as to where to get a Service Man. and a Owners Man. with out haviong to run to my dealership?

My Roadglide had the same issue and it was the set/resume switch on the right side.
