Default heated hand grips on 2012 CVO RG

Have a friend with both a 2011 RG custom and a 2012 CVO RG custom - wants heated grips... book say "not compatable with internal wiring?" HD shop says it can be done..

My CVO 2011 RG Ultra FLTRUSE came from the factory with heated grips. It has the internal wiring. Might be a pain fishing the wires through but it must be possible,,HD did it.

Bumping this to see if anyone has an answer. I just purchased a 2010 FLHXSE. Went to the Harley website under parts. Entered my year and model and then clicked on "hand controls". The web site gave me 56049-08A Fits '08-later Touring models. I didn't read the part where it said "Not compatible with internally wired handlebars". Having asked the site to show me the parts for a bike with internally wired handlebars I assumed the would fit . I know, I'm an idiot. When you assume you make an *** out of U and ME. Anyway, I ordered them online and when they arrived I saw the "not compatible" statement on the package.

So, back to the original question. Has anyone installed these on an "internally wired" bike. The OP stated the dealer told his friend it can be done but I'd like to know if there is any real world experience doing it. Thanks.

The stock hand control harness has heated grip provisions. You can see the connection if you remove the instrument pod, not too difficult to get to.

I have retained the heated grips on my 2012 CVO Ultra, after having changed the bars to chubby 577's. I can't think of a reason why you could not install them with internally wired bars providing you have the 1 & 1/4" bars. JMO.
