Question about CVO's
#11
When it came time to trade my two HD's an '09 FXDC with $20K invested it brought only $8K in trade. My other trade a '10 RK with $26K invested brought only $19K after 5 months of ownership.
Now after 2 1/2 months of owing my CVO I already put in another $5K in engine mods and other goodies. So far $43K invested and climbing. If I'm not careful, I'll have a $50K bike before long.
It never ends. I just can't leave a Harley stock.

Actually I just read in American Bagger that in 2012, all parts on a CVO are not exclusive- anyone can buy them from their dealer.
Not putting down any of the newer CVO's, but it seems that the 2009's were the last "exclusive" CVO's- hand built by a small team in York, PA, with many parts that couldn't be bought by non CVO owners.

Not disagreeing about the being built by a small team part but it is my understanding that many parts are not available without a CVO VIN. There has been lots of talk about the 12 lighted console and guys trying to con their way into the parts. I know with the '11s as well, the chrome eagle badge was restricted to those with a CVO VIN.

If you take 2 identical bikes..one being a CVO and the other being a regular Harley with all the extras to make it a CVO--the CVO will be worth more because the VIN states that it's a CVO.
There are restrictions on certain parts which can be gotten around....using someone else's CVO VIN to order things--or a vin you found on EBAY....but certain parts--and mostly the painted parts--need to be returned when buying a new one so that HD can be sure you are not trying to build your own CVO look alike.

And yeah, it was worth every penny.
