Default CVO Mufflers

I posted this on the touring section but thought you CVO guys may have a better Idea.

I picked up a set of 4 inch Harley slip ons for cheap. But I noticed that they have Honey Comb (Cat) material in the ends before the baffle. I tried them on the bike and it was really quiet. I was looking to quiet the bike down but not that much and I can imagine they have to be very restrictive.

I was wondering if anyone had ever knocked out the cat material and if so how did they sound after that. I know sound is objective but any ideas before I go drilling out the material.

Here is the part number from one of the pipes. 65913-06A

This is what you have (pix attached) (?)

Many have removed the cats

better sound, somewhat better performance, better less heat ... usually doesn't require a new tune

never heard someone complain the cats removed was a problem

this info is what I've read here

Use Search ... (catalyst) - so much written since 2009

On my FLHTCUSE5 the cats are in the header pipe not the muffler.
Yes you can remove the baffle on the stock muffler you must cut the weld it is spot welded in two places on each muffler. After cutting with a die grinder or dremel tool then you can pull it out with a slide hammer or use a wood drift and hit it out with a Dead blo mallot.

You may want to try 4" slip ons from a 2010 or later CVO--the cat is in the headpipe and the muffler is just baffles which are fairly easy to remove if you want to change them.

2006-2008 had the cats in the front end of the mufflers. I removed my cats from my 2008 SE3 mufflers and they sound like crap. I went with the Super Trapp Fat Shotz, with 12 disc, nice rumble and you won't believe the low end torque. I think Harley now carry's the FatShotz with the HD logo on them, you can get them directly from Harley.
