Default Cataleytic converter in an '09 CVO

My dealer told me today that only the CA models have a CC - I think all '09 CVOs do; Who is right?

You are, but not the 96 engines, just the larger CVO bikes.

All the CVO bikes have them in both pipes. Just punched mine out, has a slightly better sound.

I'm not sure about the Fat Bob and Springer but all CVO Road Glide and Ultras have catalytic converters this year. They're no longer in the mufflers though because the EPA wasn't happy that people were able to eliminate them easily by installing slip-ons. The moco now presses them into the header pipes (before the crossover) with a very restrictive steel screen that's 5.5" long.

It's a coincidence that you wrote this today because I just bought a spare header from another CVO owner that decided to buy new 2 into 1 pipes. I spent this afternoon cutting his header in half then chiseling and grinding out the catalytic converter. This pipe had low miles on it and the engine side was just about clogged up already.

Was the CC in both pipes or just the right one? I've heard both but in reading the post and seeing the photos posted by Jim it appears that there is only one in the right side. Then again, these are 2-1-2 pipes and the primary pipe is on the right side.

It completely fills the collector pipe. People were buying core bits to drill them out but they were only getting the pipe for the back cylinder.

If you want to see what the head pipe looks like with the CC, check out the link below. I just swaped out my stock CVO head pipe on my '09 FLTRSE3 with a head pipe from a non CVO '09 bagger, and the gains in HP, TQ, & imporved sound where incredible. If you have an '09 CVO, the power robbing, heat maker of a CC has to go.

How much did the new header pipes set you back? I think that's the way I need to go; then replace the baffles with a set from Fullsac.

JG,

Got mine for $150. I worked with my dealer and asked him to give me a call when a non-
cvo touring model came in for an exhaust upgrade to save me the head pipes if the customer did not want them. Took about 6 weeks for this to happen. Normally a new set of head pipes cost ~ $400. Definately the way to go.
