Default Top end noise

I have 22 thousand miles on my 2008 SE Ultra. Yesterday me and the girlfriend took off on a trip to the everglades. 250 miles into the trip I started hearing a rattle. The oil preasure was ok but I stoped to check the oil level anyway. It was fine so we continued on. The noise got worse as we went. We got home ok. I started it up the next morning and no noise so I rode 20 miles to breakfast and the longer I rode the worse the noise got. It sounds like it is comming from under the front rocker cover. Any ideas what happened? Thanks Ben

Default Top end noise

Well I took it to the dealer today and left it with a list of things to do. Fix the noise in the top end is #1 and put on new front and rear tires without scratching my chrome wheels. I also ask them to check why there is so much freeplay when you let off and give it gas. I think the rear rubber pulley mount in the wheel is worn out. So I guess we will soon find out what the top end noise is. Ben

Don't have an SE, which was a mistake. It cost me more trying to build one. Let me know what you find. Please. I have some valve train noise but it's the cams and had it once I did the 107 build.

Was the top end ever off the bike esp being a CVO? Rocker box stack may be your noise.

A quick onset of noise like that would likey be from a lifter bleeding down too quickly. Quiet when cold and gets noisy with hotter oil supports that. Wear happens over time and noise slowly gets louder.

Angry Top end noise

That sounds about right. The dealer said it my be ready today. Wednesday they said they were still looking and had not found anything yet. Closed on Thursday. The bad news was they may have to wait untill Monday to talk to the factory. I have 4 days off and no bike with some great weather here.I hope to know something soon. Thanks for your comments. Ben.

Well the verdict is in. The dealer said a lifter went bad and took out the cam and cam bearings. I guess I was lucky we made it home. The dealer said I should have the bike back tomorrow afternoon. At least I will get one day to ride. This happened at 22,000 miles. I have a full 7 year fender to fender warranty and the bike is only 9 months old. I figure it will have over 100,000 miles on it by the time the warranty is up. We will see what the 110 SE Ultra is made of. Good call Ron. Thanks Ben

Happy days are here again. Picked the bike up today. Turn around 6 days during the hollidays, not bad. Had front and back tires replaced, had 20k service done and the noise was caused when a lifter failed and damaged the cam. The dealer replaced both cams and cam bearings and all the lifters. I rode the bike 200 miles today and not a peep. No noise. Glad to have my baby home. Thanks for the intrest. Thanks Ben
