Default Springer 08 suspension first adjustment and further inspections

I heard somewhere that the springer type suspension needed a lot of attention from the dealer in each inspection, starting at it's first check when the bike is put together out from the crate.

Knowing that my dealer is not aware of this, I would like to attack the issue before it becomes a problem. I am a trained mechanic with more than 30 years experience with bikes...except for the harley, and by saying this what I mean is that you can give me all the tech instructions and so on, that I´m sure I can cope with them; if there is a link to some specific webpage even better.

I must be prepared for when I go and collect my bike next week.

All I have heard is they need to be lubed and the bushings, bearings, etc be inspected every 2500 miles.

The Springers have really improved since the earlier '90's versions. I've got close to 60,000 miles on my '03 Heritage Springer and the bearings are still looking like new. One thing to keep in mind though...if you ride a lot of roads that are bumpy or rough have the dealer check the adjustment and alignment of the forks every 10,000 miles. Also at 5,000 mile checks have them check the tightness of all the bolts and nuts on the frontend.
That should take care of any problems. Sometimes a Springer will have a front end shimmy at low speeds...most of that is taken care of by tightening the runout and the head bolt.

Thanks to all, specially Scurvy Jack; I now feel more confident, since there is "0" experience here at the dealer and I guess I will take over when I get my workshop manual. Now I know tha the suspension comes fully adjusted from the shop.
