bob2002,

Where are you getting the idea that the left stock muffler on your bike is "almost closed off"? Mufflers are the same, right or left. The reason that the majority of the exhaust exits the right side is due to the cross over pipe and has nothing to do with the mufflers. Even if you put the SE mufflers on with your stock head pipes most of the exhaust will still be leaving via the right side. No different than with your stock mufflers. The only way to change this is to go to true dual header pipes.

Zeb,when I removed my mufflers from my 07 ultra the left muffler was a hollow shell almost totally closed off at the exit and the right mufflers was totally different from the left side, the CVO mufflers are like the SE mufflers from what I've seen except for the cats, that was my question from the start.

Boy, that's news to me. Guess I'm out of the loop on the '07 and '08 bikes. If they did that, why don't they just install a 2 into 1 with a ghost pipe on the left?

However, I still stand by what I said. Even with two equal mufflers installed on the stock header pipes nearly all the exhaust is going out the right side. But that's where the back preassure comes in for the low end torque. Some claim as loss of low end torque with true duals. But I never noticed it when I switched over to them. True duals also make most mufflers a little louder since you can now also hear the left side.

I tried to modify the CVOmufflers off my '06 SE Ultra by taking out the cats and punching out the baffles but to my surprise they weren't any louder than beforeI started. But sound is such a subjective thing. No two people seem to hear the same. I do know that any muffler is louder on my 103" than they were on an 88". Not sure about the new 96's.

Good luck!

bob2002,

I'm running stock exhaust. for long rides I prefer the stock exhaust sound level. I went by the HD dealer today and listened to a 08 Screamin Eagle Ultra and a 08 Ultra, sound level's are pretty close, but there is a difference in tone. I think these will give me the look I'm after and leave the sound level about the same. I've owned bikes with loud exhaust and have paid the price in hearing loss.

The SE 110 is a little louder than the 96 ci because of the higher compression and se cams as well as the muffler design.
