Default Help get the rubber heel off the pipes

Out washing to the bike little while ago and found what I thought was tar all over the pipes by the right foot board. Wasn't sure..tried Goo Be Gone..didnt work. Wife went and got my boot and showed me how I am missing part of the right inside heel. OOOPPSSSS>>>>

Does anyone know how or what will remove this stuff? Goo Be Gone doesn't.

Any help appreciated.

#0000 Fine Steel Wool. Won't scratch the pipes.

Eagle One Never Dull. It takes a little bit of work but it will remove the rubber on the pipes. Just don't over do it. I have had some luck with mineral spirits also.

If the pipes are warm (not hot), a well placed shot of Easy Off oven cleaner will work. Wipe off any overspray on other parts of the bike. When the pipes are cool, clean the area with a good spray cleaner/polish.

Finger nail polish can work.

BEFORE using (VERY FINE) steel wool which does work - use WD40 - it will remove 99% of most road tars and other petroleum products - but after cleaning it with WD40, then clean it with a Windex or similar spray cleaner to remove any trace of the WD40. Quick and simple cleaning solution that will not harm your chrome (I have used some steel wool - too coarse - that did scratch the chrome - be careful using it - rub very lightly).

Look for a product called Road Rub. It looks like a deodorant stick. It works and doesn't hurt your chrome.

Just use a little oven cleaner. Make sure not to get it on the paint. I spray it on a rag away from the bike then wipe the pipe. It takes most anything off and won't hurt anything. I would never use an abrasive on them though.

Usually it wipes off if you get the pipe good and hot.
