09 Ultra Classic CVO with 50K miles
Good day all,
I am looking at buying an 09 Ultra CVO with just over 50K miles.
I ride an 09 FLHTCU with 42K.
Its the Ruby Red and Typhoon Maroon a dream bike for me.
I have not physically seen the bike yet, only internet and discussions with sale person. Service History is sketchy, not sure what it had done or not done?
My assumption, which yes can be dangerous, is you shell out 35K for a bike your likely taking pretty dang good care of it, at least that's what i have read on here?
Anyway,
Wondering any advice on what i should be asking about, looking at, listening for etc...Or just pass?
OR things that i should do service wise if i do buy it.
Or just pass on it for a lower mileage bike??
I am not a mechanic nor pretend to be one, but can look at any suggestions i get.
thanks

I bought one of these 4 years ago, and I'm glad to say I purchased one with warranty still intact. 73,000km on the bike. When at 62k had the dreaded rattle in the primary, and also at that time, shop replaced the cams which had started to peal the metal of the lobes so they also replaced the oil pump to make sure no filings had gone through the engine. These things are normal for this year of engine with 60,000km or 40,000 miles on them. Purchased 5 more years of warranty last fall for $3000 and already recouped $1700 of it back with the replacement of the heated LH grip that was not producing heat and the decompression release on the rear cylinder. But I love the bike, first owner had 10,000 in upgrades and I had access to all records of repair from my local shop. Is it impolite to ask what their asking price is. I paid $30,000 for mine 4 years ago.

You would definitely want to address the usual suspects here, being cam bearings, lifters, compensator, etc. With a sketchy history, I would want to have a wrench go over it (on your dime) and examine the oil for any metal particles.
Obviously, you would want to know what mods were done to the bike and when. With so many bikes on the market, take your time and choose wisely!
