Default Adjusting Shift Linkage

With this new bike there seems to be quite a bit of travel in the shift process. I've adjusted the levers on the splines to my liking. And I know you can adjust travel at the linkage, but is it okay to do that?
I am still in the Break-in process. Should I wait?
