Question York Pa. Trip

Several of us are planning a road trip mid Sept. from Norfolk Va. to York Pa. then to Gettysburg and return to Norfolk. Three days total. Maybe a 1000 mile round trip and we will take breaks and try to enjoy the ride.
Question on lodging. If you have made a trip to York, where would you recommend staying? and importantly where not to stay.We plan on the steel toe tour at the plant of course. Are there any other things to consider seeing in the area.
Also same for Gettysburg area.
Looking to make a nice, enjoyable, memorable ride. There are six of us planning to ride now, and none will be in a big hurry.

There is a new hotel close to the factory on rt 30. I am pretty sure its a marriot chain. I recommend that. On the ride to gettysburg from York, I would look for something other than rt 30. There are a lot of nice roads from York to GBurg.

I did the tour last year, riding up the DelMar peninsula into Philly and then catching 30 West out towards Lancaster / York. I spent the night in a brand new "Scottish Inn" right on Rt30 in Lancaster the night before the tour. Very nice ( and $59.95.)

We did the steel toe tour last year. Stayed at the Quality Inn, General Lee's Headquarters in Gettysburg. Took Rt 30 to the plant. Nice motel right beside the battlefield. Park right outside your room.

I stay at the Super 8,that's right next door to Laugerman's Harley Davidson. It is always about $50 a night. It's about 1/2 mile to the plant.

There are a bunch of low end places at that same exit where the Super 8 is, there is a good diner there also as well as couple other chain restaurants. Just one more exit up 83, only a few miles, is a nice looking Comfort Inn. I have never stayed at any of these places but drive by there and stop at that exit on 83 frequently.

As far as Motel Rooms it depends on what you want in the way of a room. I go to the Factory every year end of Sept for the Open House. I'm in Pittsburgh, PA area This year it is Sept 18,19,20. Not far from the factory there is a Red Roof Inn, Super 8 and a Motel 6. When I go to York I usually stay at a Homewood Suites that is close by. If its a Monday thru Thursday Homewood Suites has a dinner and free beer/wine for a few hours in the evening. They also have an indoor pool and hot tub. Heck if you want there is a state park that has a campground you can camp at if you want to go that route. You should explore roads other than route 30, a lot of nice roads. If you have any questions just IM me.

Did Gettysburg and the tour a few weeks ago. Left Central VA early in am and was in Gettysburg by 11am going up Rt 15 from Rt 17. Spent the afternoon in Gettysburg doing the vistor center then rode the bikes on the battlefield tour. Around 5 pm headed to york via rt 30. We stayed at the Hampton Inn a mile or so east of the factory, clean and friendly but not cheap. There was a Longhorn steak house in the same parking lot as the Hampton Inn and we ate there. Short ride to factory the next day. Did the steel toe tour which I recommend over the regular tour. Get your tickets in advance though as they sell out.

Holiday Inn about four miles away with an Outback right down the block. Continental breakfast, it gets the job done.
