Cant help with places to stay, we won't be up that way until 8/19 and 8/20. If you come across any must see places or good places to eat as well as decent accommodations let me know. Wife and I are really looking forward to that part of the trip. Enjoy your ride.

Depending on your schedule Golden will have some good motels. I've stayed at the Travelodge and was happy with it.
Another stop on your way would be Field BC. It's in Yoho NP. Takkakaw Falls is worth seeing as is Emerald Lake. For accommodation I would google Field BC accommodation. There are numerous guest houses available.
As for Banff and Jasper there are too many places to list. Someone with more experience in the area may offer some specifics but a google search will show prices and description.

A couple of years ago my wife and I went and we stayed in Canmore, a little outside of the hustle and bustle and the high prices. We had a condo in Canmore for less than a hotel room in Banff.

Another option is Radium Hot Springs. It's on the West side of Kootenay National Park which butts against Banff and cheaper accomodation. A bit less than 2 hours from Banff or Lake Louise and a nice ride through the mountains

You have your choice from hundreds of hotels and motels in both the town of Banff and Jasper. If you want to expand the area as far away as Golden then you'd thousands of places to choose from.

Check any popular reservation site.
hotels.ca
travelocity.ca
expedia.ca

Or try tripadvisor for ratings, prices, locations, etc.

If you want to go to Banff, then stay in Banff. Same with Jasper. You will have no problem finding accommodation with about 5 minutes effort. lol.
