Trip around Lake Michigan
Hi all,
I'm currently planning a trip over to the States and have decided that I want to do a circular router around Lake Michigan.
I'll be flying into Chicago and looking to spend a day there, then a day in Milwaukee (for obvious reasons), then heading in a clockwise direction all the way back round to Chicago.
This will be my first trip across the pond, and would really love to hear any suggestions that you have for places to visit, stay, avoid etc. Sadly, I don't think shipping my Harley over is an option and will probably be doing the trip in a hire car, but I guess I can't have it all.
Have been planning on a 10 day trip, but may extend this slightly if needs be.
Really looking forward to your recommendations.

I went up to see Jamie at Fuel Moto. I decided to make the complete trip around Lake Michigan. What a beautiful ride!! I may have my names mixed up but there was a restaurant just south of the Mackinaw bridge on the edge of Lake Michigan. The Leggs Inn was the name. Definitely a great stop for something to eat. Also south of that is The Row of Trees! Watch out for the deer!

Do a search on the Forum and you'll find great information on roads, attractions and events in and around the upper and lower peninsula that are worth the time to see ... Copper Harbor, H-58 in the Upper, Picture Rocks, Mackinaw City, Leggs Inn, M-119 ( Tunnel of Trees ) M-22 ( Scenic East Side of Lake Michigan ) If you're looking for a mom and pop motel that is super biker friendly consider the Clark Mootel near Strongs ( the intersection of M-28 and M-123. Andy and Patty are super and you will be amazed at their "Old Style Route 66 Type Motel"

The ferry goes in and out of Ludington now (not sure what port in Wisconsin). A few blocks from the ferry dock there's a brewery called Jamesport. Good beer, great food.
Make sure to include the Traverse City/Charlevoix area. Simply beautiful.
If you drive all the way around, Taquamenon Falls in the UP are nice.
