Default Lakes Region NH to Northern ME (Millonocket) any advice?

Me and a friend are doing a trip the weekend of the fourth. Want to avoid major highways, looking for fun roads. Laconia to Island Falls, ME. Then another destination the next night (not sure where yet...suggestions? Acadia NP maybe?) Ending just north of Boston.

Any ideas for good roads, or places we should stop to see, eat, anything cool?

Thanks!

I could recommend many ways to go from Laconia to Island Falls. I have ridden rt2 from Gorham NH to Island Falls this year, pretty good ride. Though rt2 is beat to crap from Macwahoc to Island Falls. My suggestions would depend on how far off the beaten path you want to be.
I need to get on the stick right now, but I'll check back later.

Agree that Acadia is wonderful but it will be swarming that weekend. We avoid heading there July and August. Route 1 may also be swamped. But it is a wonderful area to ride if you are prepared for possible traffic delays. For roads less traveled I would suggest heading south on Rt 11, picking up Rt 16 to head west, then 15 to Moosehead Lake. Or continue west on 16 to Rangely which is a nice place to stay. This will keep you away from crowds and on some really scenic roads.

Here is a suggestion for Laconia to Island Falls.
Google map this route; Laconia>North Conway NH>Gorham NH>Skowhegan ME>Dover-Foxcroft ME>Millinocket ME>Island Falls. This is about 320 miles.
If you have any interest in this route, let me know and I can add some specifics.
Have a safe ride.
