Default Colorado 141

Just a quick post as this is the first time I have ever rode or drove this part of Colorado.

This road goes thru some pretty great western scenery.

I just rode it on June 16th.

Not very many people on it by the way for some reason.

One stretch of road between gas is about 65 miles....wide open and very nice.

It runs from roughly just south of Grand Junction and ends up about 30 miles north of Cortez. Some pretty good curves and elevation changes...nothing too crazy.

You can also catch it in the middle from Montrose.

NO PICTURES due to my forgetting the camera!

I love that area as well and its very nice riding. Have you ever rode 65 just east of Grand Junction down to Delta? Thats a nice road also...love riding in this state.

I've ridden both roads mentioned above. Hwy 141 has sweeper after sweeper which can be ridden and good speed. In other words, they're not hairpins where you have to do a lot of braking. The Hanging Flume is visible along this road, quiet interesting.

Hwy 65 is called the Grand Mesa Scenic Byway and is a really pretty ride. Both of these are well worth riding.

Here's a photo of part of the Hanging Flume I mentioned in my previous post.

Here's another. If you look real close and use your imagination you can barely see the flume along the cliff on the left side of the river.

Here's a photo taken from the Grand Mesa looking back toward Grand Junction. The Mesa is relatively flat on top and is over 11,000 feet in elevation.

Sorry 'bout that. I know what you mean. I'm going again in August and it can't get here fast enough.

Those are great photos! Will do that trip again.
For the start of summer it wasn't really crazy, traffic wise.
I was short on time otherwise Grand Mesa would be part of the trip...some great views.

Had to come down from Amarillo on 287 then made the stupid decision to bypass DFW for the morning rush hour and go around on secondary roads.
Henrietta, Weatherford, Cleburne then down to Mexia and 45.
Weatherford to Cleburne was a mess....
probably should have just risked it and went on thru Ft Worth!

I was about to just turn back around and go back to Colorado!

Was it a traffic or construction problem from Weatherford to Cleburne? I used to live over close to Weatherford and it's growing so fast that they've got traffic problems just like the Metroplex.

Its Tx 171 im thinking.
It was a two lane road and lots of work trucks and 18 wheelers.
Never ending groups of vehicles coming and going from Weatherford to Cleburne.
It seemed to thin out greatly in Cleburne.
Wasn't so bad after that to I35 and beyond.
But I was thinking what a commute if you have to go from Weatherford area to Cleburne every day and the reverse.
Geez.
Hillsboro was a little traffic jam also.
I know the time was rush hour morning and it was only about 20 miles from Ft. Worth but wow...
bunch of industrial type business that had a lot of truck traffic.
Im sure construction will follow...its a bit much for a 2 lane road.

I'm glad I read this post. Heading down towards the Grand Canyon on Saturday from northern Wyoming thru Colorado. I'm going to stay a night in Telluride and was planning on going through Delta and Montrose. Highway 41 looks alot better of a ride. I've been on Highway 145 and 90 from Telluride over the LaSalle Mountains to Moab and that was great. Hardly any traffic at all and great scenery. Now looking forward to the roads to the north.
