Trip to Key West from Maryland
Anyone ever ride to Key West, FL from as far up northeast as Maryland? Something I want to do and will probably do in the future. May do it solo as well because friends don't seem to want to make the trip. Anyone ever do that solo, any problems, safety issues etc? Just lookng for some general advice. Just got back into riding after many yrs and never made a long trip. Looking for the best months to ride and the least hetic times down there(Key West) etc etc.

Key West off season is now, it apparently it gets very hot down there in the summer. High season is from October to April (give or take).
We rode down to Biketoberfest from NY in 2005 planning on going to KW the next day. Hurricane hit and closed the Keys, but it was within reach. Have ridden several times from Daytona to KW after trailering to Daytona for Bike Week.
Not the most fun ride on I-95, but it gets the job done. If you have time there are better routes south along the coast etc.

I went to key west in the middle of april. Traffic was not bad. When you get to mile marker 77 there is a boat marinia on the right I think its called Robs. That is were you could feed the tarpon. If you lay on the boat dock and hang food over the water they will come out of the water to get it... The ride was great. Good scenery and great people when you get to the end. If you are planning on camping in the state park you better book it early. There is tons of privately owned camp grounds that you could stay at..

I just did it this March. We rode from Ct to Daytona and stayed in Daytona a day and checked out the Bike week scene. Then we headed for Key West. I only wish we had more time and wished we stayed in the Keys for a day or two. We opted to head back to Daytona for a couple days before riding home. I agree 95 is not the best road north of South Carolina. I rode back 81 to 84 into CT. I rode down with 2 other guys, but back home from Daytona solo. Awesome trip, I love riding so it was heaven being on the road.
