I'm reading these replies and thinking this has turned into one of those...tell us about your worst road trip..ha ha. When in fact someone hit it right on the head and said I learned a lot on this trip...I did! At he same time I have to say I had an awesome time riding the skyline and BRP.....this morning I took a ride with a guy who mentored me when I first started out....the two of us just hit it....one of those perfect rides....weather, speed, trip and most important - company! Sometimes you have to live and learn by trial and error....next time I know how to lower the odds of riding with an *******.

Already excited about my next trip to Niagara Falls.....solo.

I have learned though this thread that a good riding bud is a rare and precious commodity. Some rides solo is the way to go. I will wonder if some of us are just going to be better suited as lone riders.

For me, a mix. Some rides solo. But I miss riding with a friend. Things to share. Another to talk to. Like I said in another post, my best riding buds in the past made me lead all the time so I have never been privy to some of the "better" aspects... ha.

so to the orig post... yes. Good to know someone very well before setting out on such an adventure... or is that part of the adventure. Prudent to not be in a position that one cannot bail, however. Don't give up on finding a good riding mate. Just be careful.

First year i was riding iI basically would not ride with others. I put 16,500 miles on my bike and about 200 were with other people. 185 with my now hubby :-). Long distance I still love my solo trips and do them for work meeting or other places hubby isn't coming.
Other trip it is just me and hubby with our two bikes. Dont mjnd meeting people and hanging out. But a trip is basically trusting someone with your life. Hubby is only rider who gets that trust. It is also trusting them with your sanity which you found out. Glad your lesson was one of annoyance vs something bad happening.

I have a few close friends I ride with. Some I leave home. I am a 2nd officer with a riding club so I feel obligated to put out open invites but I am doing this less and less....

didn't mean to highjack this with a "there I was" story. lesion learned from me, know who your riding with and know their style of ride.
