I didn't wade through the thread. Have given this idea/proposal a fair amount of consideration:

My sis lives in Mesquite -- 80 miles east of Las Vegas. I'm in Astoria, OR -- and so the whole Nevada road scene is temperamentally close and yet distant.

Not a huge fan of big cities -- I don't like riding in traffic, don't want to turn my back, walk away from my ride. I won't park my bike at CostCo to return something I bought there.

OK -- Nevada . . .

Extraterrestrial Hwy runs down the middle of Nevada. It's out in the middle of no-where, AKA "BFE" . . .

Open highway, camp anywhere. Rachel Nevada is "Extra Terrestrial City" -- They have a web site. Rachel NV is a good search on Google.

Open road, good riding. I don't think Vegas is a good ride.

There's Death Valley, but it's Gawd Awful HOT --

I'd look at Hoover Dam, make an effort to get out to the Grand Canyon in AZ.

 

Looks like you had a great trip. Just wondering if you saw the actual rock at Mexican Hat. The big flat one that looks like a hat.
