Colony, WY - Hwy 212
A friend and I are planning an IBA 48 state ride for this summer. Our route has us going from Redfield, SD to Bozeman, MT and, along the way we need a receipt in Wyoming. We can save about 45 minutes by taking Highway 212 across the northwest corner of Wyoming, but it doesn't look like there's much along that road.
I see that there's a small community in Colony, WY. Do any of you know if there's a gas station, store, or anyplace we could make a purchase there?
Thanks,

Been down that road in Wyo. many times but only remember some mining going on in that area...believe it's bentonite. I suggest Googling bentonite with Colony, WY in the terms and you may get the name of the company in that area you could call. There's fuel and an interesting watering hole at Alzada, Mont., about 20 miles west of those mines and of course fuel back at Belle Fourche about the same distance.

I wrote to the company that runs the mines in Colony, WY. They were super friendly and willing to help out. If I ever need some bentonite, I know where I'm going. Check out the response below. Very funny.
Apparently there isn’t anything along that road in our area where you could get a receipt for your proof. Sorry. The 212 road is empty except for our plant from SD to Montana right there. Here is a nice comment from one of our North Dakota plant workers that also does these long distance rides. “I recommend getting a speeding ticket as that should show location and time . I am not speaking from experience or anything.” He was doing one of the 1000miles in 24 rides and got busted. Sorry we couldn’t help. Ride safe.
