I just received the 2014 Dorm Room rental info for Sturgis this year from Black Hills State University (BHSU) in Spearfish, SD. BHSU rents out their dorm rooms each year during the Rally. I've stayed there several times and found it to be reasonable priced with a great location and plenty of free parking for vehicles, bikes, and trailers.

I plan to go back this year again -- it sure beats the hell out of Camping (IMHO).

Reasonably priced? I did the math, it worked out to be about $87 a night.
Myself, with Colorado's new weed law, I'm riding to Colorado this summer.

 

If you check Hotel room prices during the rally they run $250 - $300 per night (assuming you can find a room). Yes, the dorm rooms are very reasonably priced compared to the competition.

 

We have rented part of a private residence in Spearfish for several years. Great place to stay!

are there any rooms/suites with bathtubs...my wife does not like showers? or all the bath facilities communal and down the hall?

The rooms at SDSU are dorm rooms. Although the building/rooms are coed, the shower/bathroom facilities are not. The rooms each have a sink in them, but the separate men's and women's bathrooms/showers are down the hall. The showers are private stalls with locking doors for privacy. The building is not air conditioned, but they provide a large portable fan in each room. There is a common area with a TV and the building has WiFi. They have a person on duty 24hr a day and the parking lot is patrolled by Campus Security.

It's basic but adequate at a reasonable price in a great location.

 

What price did you pay at the Holiday Inn?? Just for grins I checked and they are fully booked, but the Holiday Inn Express in Sturgis still has rooms starting at $540 per night + tax.
