Thinking about the Highlands Estate Resort in Mesquite; looks like a nice place.

No idea where to stay around Provo, so many small towns, Bountinful, Orem, etc.... just don't want to end up in a crappy part of town.

You can get a cheap room and a buffet in Mesquite, but the hotels are marginal. I stay at Virgin River (cheap!), Casablanca (nicer than VR), or Eureka (also nicer than VR) when traveling by myself. If I am with the wife, it's Vegas or St. George. I have never stayed in Provo. SJ Ron

Bountiful is 40 miles north of Provo, past Salt Lake City. There are plenty of hotels in the Provo/Orem area. It's a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there. It's a generally nice area.

Thanks for the info guys!

I was thinking it would be better to stay outside of the city-area, like SLC and Provo; maybe Spanish Fork?

I just don't want to be around tons of people and traffic, crime, etc.
Maybe Ogden, Brigham City?

What is your actual destination? I can tell you are traveling North-South is you're asking about Mesquite and the Provo-Orem area?

On the south end of the metro areas Nephi or Spanish Fork would be good. On the north end, North Ogden or Brigham City would also be a good choice.

Salt Lake City doesn't scare me, I was born and raised there. Traffic through the Wasatch Front cities can be very heavy, especially on I-15.

We're heading to Sturgis, leaving today. We have a place in Mesquite, and Rawlins WY, just needed something around Provo/SLC.
I was quite surprised that prices were really high around SLC, everything is over $100.

I haven't booked a room in SLC for a few years. I'm surprised rooms are so expensive there. It isn't even ski season.

You might try finding a room in Heber City. It's east of Provo up Provo Canyon. From there it's not too far (maybe 15-20 miles) to I-80 and you bypass the Salt Lake area.

Stayed in Provo and Orum. Both about $70 a night and place was pretty nice. Just grab one of those hotel mags at the gas station to get a good rate.
