Well if your coming across the border I would recommend seeing the 1000 islands area, Alexandria Bay. Went to the NYS Hog Rally last year and man what a beautiful area. We went thru the Adirondack Mountains and what great riding especially on Rt 30 and Rt 10. I didnt get to see it and we rode right by it but I heard good things about the Adirondack museum and might be worth to check out, if in the area. Enjoy the ride with your Dad. Ride safe Bob

We did the same trip last week. Me and a buddy crossed into the US at Niagara Falls, drove 90 to Utica. Headed north on 12 then cut off at 28. This took us into the mountains. First stop was Old Forge where we stayed the night. This is were it got tricky for us as we only had a map. We took 28 and somehow got onto 28N and backtracked for about 100km. Eventually we ended up in Plattsburg. Our goal was to go to Vermont then up to Montreal but it rained so hard we decided to return home the next day.... so close we were at the ferry waiting, soaked. The mountains were awesome lots of up down turns. Watch out for the deer and moose, signs all over. Looks like great fishing too. On the way home we took 190 to 11 and stayed on it till we hit Syracuse. You can take the Canadian cut off near Watertown if you want to take the Thousand Island bridge. From Syracuse we took 31 all the way home. Nice speed is 55. It rained most of the time and put a damper on everything but I guess thats what rainsuits are for.
Enjoy

Route 3 east from Watertown is a nice ride. Go to the Lake Placid area & go to Whiteface Mountain, and ride the gondola up to the top. If you're going to Utica first, try route 8 out of Utica. 8 comes out at interstate 87, but up there, there won't be any traffic like around Albany. Then, map it out & you can hit Whiteface & Lake Placid on the way back to Ogdensburg. If you're crossing back into Canada at interstate 87, Whiteface won't take you very far out of your way, from 87. Nice roads there anyway, and it's worth the trip.
