When leaving the Smokies (staying in Sevierville)what is the best scenic route to get to the Blue Ridge Parkway to head North.

Thanks

I believe I took rt 40 from the dragon. Don't know if it's best route but any road out of NJ was great to me.

From Sevierville you can go south, through Gatlinburg and then the park. Pick up the beginning of the BRP right after you exit the park. From there to Mt. Pisgah is the best part of the parkway and you don't want to miss it.

Take 441 south toward Cherokee; you'll run right into it...

441 is absolutely beautiful! Some of the best scenery in western NC! A must ride!

That's definitely the best (most scenic) route and you do want to get on the BRP from the beginning there.
The only possible downside of 441 from Gatlinburgh to the BRP if you're in any knid of a hurry, is that it's 2 lane and double yellow lined the whole way. I't not uncommon to run up on a long string of cages stuck behind a sightseer doing 20mph. It's more of a problem in the afternoon than early morning.

Looks like 441S is the best way to pick up the Parkway leving from Sevierville. We will be on the BRP until we get to Wythevile VA. Staying in Wytheville overnight so we can take our time. What is a "Must See" in that 200 mile stretch of the BRP.

I would suggest you check out Mt. Mitchell, Linville Falls, Grandfather Mountain, they have a mile high bridge and the view from up there is one of the best in the area. If you have extra time, I would suggest Chimney Rock park and lake Lure, they are south of Asheville. Also the motorcycle museum in Maggie Valley, about 2o minutes from Cherokee.

Also there is a great place on 441 about halfway Called Clingmans Dome, at the top of the mountain.

+1 to everything tracey87 posted.

The motorcyle museum in Maggie Valley is called Wheels Through Time, fantastic place, we did the tour last summer, spent about 3-4 hours there, the employees are great, every one of them will talk to you and answer any questions you have about any of the exhibits, if I remember correctly they have 80,000 S.F. of exhibit space. The day we were there, Dale Walksler, the owner came riding up on a 1913 Harley that he had just ran the week before in the Cannonball Run, amazing.

Linville Falls is a great hike, it is moderate and takes maybe 3 hours to do the entire trail & return. You can also go on the falls side of the park & get right up to the top of the falls. If you go take a side trip to Linville Caverns, it is maybe 5-10 miles from the falls (I think).

If you ride the entire BRP you will go through Shenandoah Valley, do some day hikes, stop at Luray Caverns and do the tour.

My wife and I are riding the entire BRP starting at Cherokee on August 29 (Monday) and returning back there the next Sunday.

As a side note I understand the BRP is very busy on weekends.

Enjoy.
