Default Twin Cities West 212 - 14

Heading on a small ride in a few weeks. One leg will be through Minnesota - South Dakota. Instead of doing I90 through Minn. I was thinking of catching 212 to 14 out of the twin cities and running through Deadwood SD. I have not run that in decades.

Good route or avoid?

Thanks'

Thats the route I used to take with my Brother going out when I lived there. Other than the fact that you will be going through the 494 portion of the Cities thats still nicer than riding freeway the whole time. Will of course take a little longer. Last time I was up there in April there was construction on 494 on the southern part you would be going across so you may want to check if thats part of your planned ride from WI.

I am not sure what 212 west of the twin cities is like, but I would avoid the twin cities itself. It seems like there is road construction on every freeway around here, with some complete closures on the weekends. If you have to get close to town I would check your route on MN DOT's website first.

Here is what traffic looked like the other day...

Default Hi

I live in Stillwater, which is about 35 miles from 212. 212 is fine depending on how you get there. If you take 494 during rush hour, it can be a bear for sure.

212 is very pretty and runs along the river valley for a while.

Hey Scott, if you avoid rush hour in the TC you can slide through without too much trouble but it is pretty much chewed up all over.

When are you going out there ? Leaving the 12th for a week, we'll be staying at the Hill City KOA. Let me know if you'll be around, maybe we can meet up for a ride.

Rizzo! I am leaving on the 13th. This is going to be a leisurely run this year. Looping North through Dakotas and in Dillon CO by the 16th for a few days. Then West Coast, Texas and up the Mississippi home.

Thanks for the replies on the 212 -14. If the road construction is that bad, I might do 21 to LaCrosse then the 90. Cut back up on 29 out of Sioux Falls.

That's one hell of a ride you have planned. Take lots of pics and keep us posted.

Safe travels.
