Can you say HOT! Lot of nothing happening between moments of high thrills. Nothing out there! If speed is your thing, it is where it is at!

utah has lots of beautiful things to see--just not out there. was talking to some guys at the springfield mile a couple of weeks ago and they said you need to go at least once. people show up with some weird crap to try and set a speed record in their class.

Salt Lake City to Bonneville is a numb ride. Watch out for cops on the overpass.
If your into old cars or history it is worth the stop. You never know what your going to see. You can walk right up to all the pits and ask questions. They are a dedicated bunch. It IS HOT and no cover so bring a good hat and plenty of water.
Nothing at Wendover except to watch all the good little mormons tying to blend in.
There use to be an area in one of the casino's that had a history of the Bonneville. It was interesting.

I grew up in Salt Lake City. There is not much to do at the Salt Flats unless it's during speed week. Wendover, NV is to the west, and you can find gambling, buffets and booze there.

West Wendover, NV is about a mile from the flats and has some casinos and a concert hall. It's also somewhat historic for training the crews that dropped the bombs to end WW II. The airfield there has been used in several movies including Con Air and if you like old military stuff it's interesting. On the west end of town you can climb up on a ridge and see the curvature of the earth out over the salt flats. We took my kids ford Expedition out on the flat's and maxed it out which was fun. Only downfall to running the flats is the salt permeates everything so I would not recommend taking your scooter out there. Four wheeling out on the BLM land was also fun.
