When are you coming? I did Lassen in July a few years ago and there was still a sh!tload of snow piled up and it wasn't exactly warm.
South of Nevada (From about Bishop to Topaz lake) the 395 is a great road... almost all of it. From about Sonora Jct to Topaz lake... it's a good 40 miles of high speed sweepers that run right along the river... it's one of my favorite roads ever. The problem though... is it dumps you out in Nevada... which is gross. No offense to any Nevadans... but your state is pretty ugly.
You pretty much can't go wrong with that entire area... only real issue is that Yosemite can get really (REALLY) crowded with tourists and RV's and it become a tedious chore to ride through parts of it.
Have fun... be safe.

Highway 49 from Oakhurst North to the 89 and that'll get you the best South to North route to Lassen.
You'll encounter the Little Dragon North of Oakhurst...nothing little about it and after that it's towns with bars and restaurants from the gold rush era all on a 2 day twisty road.
If you have time a great back and forth run would be Highway 108 ,The Sonora Pass.
I had to much fun and you will to.

I rode from Bend, OR to Lake Tahoe (97 and caught the 89 in Shasta) in one day.
How come nobody told me it was a two day ride before I did it? That woulda been nice 'cause that was a brutal ride. I think I did the last hour in the dark... Ha ha ha...
