Default Tail of the Dragon

Just made my reservations for Harrah's Cherokee in Cherokee North Carolina for June 20 and 21. Going to see Billy Idol while there. Most important I'm going to do the Tail of the Dragon. Can't wait, this will be my longest solo ride.
If anyone has any suggestions on what to see or do while there please let me know.

You need to ride from Cherokee to Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg through the Smokey Mountain National Park. It's a great ride and Harley store in Pigeon Forge.

Ride over to Maggie Valley and see Wheels through time motorcycle musem. Ride the Cherohala Skyway to Tellico Plains, and get a beer. Stay away from Pigeon Forge! Ride the Foothills Parkway. At the end of the Dragon, turn left on Hwy 28, ride to the Dam, it is scenic. Ride over to Gatlinburg, and eat at Bennetts BBQ. Have a great trip.

Highway 68 between Ducktown and Tellico Plains is a blast. There are so many good roads in the area.
I'll be back someday.

A stop at Deal's Gap is mandatory. Grab a cheeseburger while your there. Agreed you can ride over to Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge and sit in traffic if that's your thing.

+1 on Deal's Gap -- check out the Tree of Shame and watch the show for a while. Avoid the Tail on weekends; weekday mornings typically has least traffic. Pigeon Forge/Gatlinberg would be places I would avoid(!) -- just tourist traps -- we spent last Thanksgiving week there and I hated it.

If your route up takes you thru Birmingham, consider a stop at Barber Motorsports Museum -- well worth a few hours.

You won't have enough time to take all the great rides in the area ( unless you move there) so do a little planning before hand. Others have already chimed in with excellent suggestions ( stay clear of Gatlinburg on the weekend ). Here's a link to what I consider some of the better rides ( and I've ridden in the area many many times ) that you'll want to consider. http://shop.americaridesmaps.com/12-...ides-NC007.htm ... BTW, Don't miss the Wheels Through Time in Maggie Valley and be prepared to spend a couple of hours there if you are really a scooter aficionado.

Planning the same trip with the wife in later June. I found this site that seems like it's got some good maps and such.
