Hey all we do a roadie every year on our May long weekend (Canadian one is 1 week before Memorial day) were leaving Windsor (Detroit Area) on May 15th goin to Lexington Ken, next day to Gatlinburg, over to Maggie Valley area, up the blue ridge to somewhere in w Virginia, then over to Zanesville Ohio, then home. Anything that is a must see along the way??? Should be a great ride theres about 20 of us this year! Teflon

Teflon, you can see where I live. Not a bad road around here or western NC. Start here at these 2 sites: motorcycleroadsus.com, I can't get this web site to link up thru post, but if you google it separately, it will come up, click on Tennessee and again on East and NE Tn. many good roads listed there. Also go to www.touringdepot.com for more links to this area, see you in May. May want to stay in Townsand, Tn or Sevierville, Tn, cheaper rates and much less traffic. Gatlinburg and The Great Smokey Mountain National Park is a must see. Also Google "The Dragon" and Deals Gap, NC. Also Hwy 441 between Gatlinburg, Tn and Cherokee, Nc is closed around Smokemont federal campground due to a major landslide. PM me if I can help you with info. Much to see in this area, cant see/ride it all in a week. Too much good riding here to do on a "weekender"

 

Depending on which route you take to Zanesville, OH, you may want to plan to ride Route 555 south of Zanesville. You can pick it up just West of Parkersburg, WV off of Route 7. If you can find it, it's well worth the time out of your way for a great ride.

 

And for the better riders, take the road down under the bridge. I think this is the old highway.

 

thanks guys keep the info comin!!! We did the triple nickle 2 years ago but theres a cool bikes bar in Zanesville we wanna hit again lol so were goin back! We plan on hitting some of the dragon. I thought 441 would be fixed by then??? Is that wrong?? Teflon

 

Local reports say June or July, but I think that is optomistic. The slide occurred above the hwy on a tall cliff and took the hwy down the side of the mountain with it. Not an area where they can blast and cut the road back out of the mountainside. Quite a major undertaking. This road being out will overload traffic onto I40 through "The Gorge" into NC and "The Dragon" Hwy 129. Millions of cars use Hwy 441 in the the 3 seasons, they will have to route now to the other 2 routes.
