Flying somewhere warm and renting harleys...but where to go????
Hi everyone;
We are looking at flying to somewhere in late March to rent Harleys for a week. We have been looking at flying into either Vegas, Albuquerque New Mexico, Dallas, or Phoenix as staring points to ride from. We would want to ride into Tucson Arizona to visit some friends at some point on the trip. Visit the Grande Canyon, and some of route 66, and any other suggestions you might have for us along the way. We would be flying out of Boston.
Where would you suggest we rent from and could you recommend some routes to take advantages/disadvantages from each above choice? I.e. getting the bikes and getting away from heavy traffic quickly? We don't want to have to deal with downtown traffic and really busy areas for any length of time.
Any experience with Harley renters in any of the above choice cities would also be helpful? I have rented out of Tucson Harley Davidson in the past...they where great to rent from and we rode the Tombstone, Brisbee area, into Sierrra Vista back to Tucson. Just want to start from and explore some different country this time.
Thanks

You might want to take a look at this:
http://www.eaglerider.com
They have a location in Tulsa. I rented from them once for a day trip to see if how I liked a particular bike.

I have never rented but I know you don't want to start and finish in Dallas. I would think Phoenix would be the optimum place to rent. We have received good service at Superstition Mountain Harley in Apache Junction. They had a large rental fleet. I would think any dealership in Phoenix would be okay.

We flew out of Boston to Las Vegas last April to go to Laughlin bike week. Rented from Las Vegas Harley Davidson, they were great, had us in and out and on the road in 15 minutes. Riding out of Las Vegas on a Thursday morning the traffic wasn't bad,returning on Sunday, the traffic was heavy and slow. We headed out to the Valley of fire, which I would recommend, then over to the Lake Mead/Hoover dam area. Then on to Kingman Az and over rt 66 to Oatman AZ and a stop for a few beers in the Oatman hotel. Then continued on to Lauglin Nv. Sorry I don't remember the route numbers we rode other than rt 66, my buddy knows the area well so I just followed.

Use Escape Eagles in Vegas. Great guys to deal with and very helpful. We rented 4 bikes back in October for 8 days and they couldn't have been more helpful. Plus, they don't require a $2000 credit card hold to rent, just $50 per day deposit. You can ship your luggage to their shop for when you get there. They'll even let you keep stuff at their shop while you're on the bikes.
When we returned the bikes, one of the guys actually took all four of us back to the hotel so we wouldn't have to pay for a taxi.

I did this in May of 2010. Had a sales meeting in Phoenix. Flew from Philadelphia, rented from Hacienda Harley in Scottsdale. Rode around AZ for 3 days before the meeting. It was great. Seems like I remember that the Harley Davidson website even has rental dealerships & phone numbers on it also. Have fun! (A friend from CA told me that he'd rented from Hacienda in the past. That's why I chose them.)
