February Texas ride
Hey Texans, can you recommend roads/sites to see between Dallas, Corpus Cristi and Galveston? We will be starting out and returning to Dallas. Approx. 5 day trip in February. Also, do you know of any safe place to store a truck and trailer in Dallas for 5 days?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Well February could be pretty cold with the typical winter weather in north Texas. Cold rain, sleet even snow is not out of the question. Frankly, Coupus Christi and Galveston and the costal plain between is not much to look at. The Texas hill country offers many more choices for good rides and scenery.

drive the truck and trailer to austin before you unload. from there it is a short ride to the hill country. texas is a big state...dallas to austin to san antonio to corpus christi to galveston to houston and back to dallas is a lot of riding. that is before you even do any back roads exploring.
bring plenty of warm clothes and a rain suit. the weather is usually pretty nice for riding that time of year...but it will be chilly early in the day. there is an old saying in texas---"don't like the weather, just wait 5 minutes and it will change".
get on the weather channel or some other site and look at the average temps. in a few areas of texas that you are interested in seeing. lay out 2 or 3 different routes to explore-base them on the weather. couple of days before you head out...look at the extended forecasts for the week and decide which route to take.
if you have been hunkered down all winter up north, the texas weather will be warm and inviting--while us locals will be complaining because the high is only going to be 60 degrees today!

We did a simaliar ride last February. We did haul our bikes down to the Austin area. We found a camp ground where we could leave the pickup and trailer. They wanted $10 for the week. We rode out to the hill country. We spent one night in Kerrville and one night at Fredricksburg. We did ride the three sisters area and enjoyed all this area. After that we spent three days in San Antonio. We really liked SA. We stayed in a Drury Inn right on the river walk. It was a nice hotel with a free breakfast and evening snacks and drinks. After that we went to Corpus Cristy. We stayed at a Radisson right on the beach. This week was spring break in Texas. The hotel was very busy and overrun with people. We would probably skip this area if we were returning. We then spent three days in Austin. We enjoyed the bar-b-que and music in this area.
