Made if back last night, just a shade under 1500 miles in the route we took.

I appreciate all the ideas and suggestions this place gave me, in this thread and others on the same topic. We did it in four days, I think if we could've taken five it would've been perfect. But it was a blast, and I definitely recommend spending as much time in the UP as possible. The Painted Rocks area is phenomenal.
