Default Gateway Canyon, Colorado

We just got back from a 7,300 mile round trip from Columbus, Ga. up to SoDak, etc., and fiddled around in the Southwest before heading home. I'll bet we crossed the COntinental Divide 5 different times and got rained and/or hailed on every time.

We really made, for us anyway, a great discovery in Colorado. There is a fancy-schmancy resort in Gateway, Co that also has a very, very cool old car museum. This stuff is great.

But better than that was the ride to Gateway and then past it, accessed from Grand Junction, Hwy 50. It's Hwy 141 and maybe 90 miles altogether. Its a little dry on the south end but still a gorgeous, walled canyon, semi-twisty ride.

Have fun.

Yes, it is a special road and ride, a top 10 Colorado journey. It is also known as the Unaweep-Tabeguache Scenic and Historic Byway. From Colorado 141, approaching Gateway from the north...

Here's a couple more. This is of the canyons one enters just south of Gateway. ..

A popular place for pulling over is at the hanging flume viewing site. Note the historic wooden flume construction built on the side of the rock walls above the Dolores River. The flume was constructed to carry water to mining operations. Can see the road above the drop off...

Yep, been there, loved it. CO 141 is a great ride. We spent I think one night at the resort, great restaurant and like you said a super car museum. Highly reccomend it.

I bow to your financial stability. Just for grins we asked what they could give us a room for, bottom dollar, and were politely told they could go as low as $320 for one night. We kept on riding. Very nice folks though and a great ride.

NICE PIX by the way sfarson!!

Looks like a pretty cool area, I am heading out there Friday for a week and after getting Farsons book and seeing all the writeups here on the forum I am like a kid in a candy store. It looks like any road you take is as good or better than the last one. Friday morning can't com soon enough.

Default sucks

What really sucks is living south of Gateway and only way to go any where is to drive hwy 141-145 or 90 north, south, east or west. Middle of all best riding in Colorado.
