Default Front Royal Trip

Headed down to Front Royal Va. for a week from Vermont. Planning to ride around in northern Va. Including the Skyline Drive. I'm looking for any must see recommendations while we are there. I enjoy anything history related and will spend some time in Gettysburg. Good places to eat are alson on my need list. Thanks

Definitely catch some of the Civil War sites along the way (Gettysburg, Fredricksburg, etc.)...they're very fascinating. Enjoy!

Not going to make it to the Dragon sadly this time, but it's on the list for the next time I'm that far down south.

Did that ride last year. At the end of the Skyline you are fairly close to Charlottesville Virginia (about 30 miles). The Thomas Jefferson estate "Monticello" is there. If you like history I would highly recommend it. We stayed at a Hilton Garden right off of 64. Very nice hotel.
After visiting Monticello we decided to check back into the hotel and stay another day and went to the University and to the downtown outdoor mall and had a great time. Lots of restaurants there.

Skyline Drive sucks. You gotta pay to get on it, the speed limit is 35, geezers and Bambi watchers everywhere.
Take the Sperryville exit for lunch (Route 211). At the bottom of the mountain, there are some artsy-fartsy shops in the area. After lunch in Sperryville, head back up the mountain, past the Skyline Drive entrance and down the other side. BIG fun.
