My wife and I are leaving in 1 month to go west from southern Indiana. Going to Iron butt it to Colorado Springs in 1 day from there we are going to ride hwy 50 to 550south (million dollar hwy) to Durango. The next day we are riding to four corners then on to Grand Canyon National Park via 160 to 89 around to the North rim. We will then travel 89 to Utah to 12 which will take us back to Colorado. From here I'm not sure where we are going, maybe Rocky Mnt. National Park, Trail Ridge Road. On the way home we are going to South Dakota to Sturgis, Mt. Rushmore, and Crazy Horse mem. then to the Badlands National Park. Any suggestions along the way? I will post pics when we return.

Sounds like a lot of great riding to me, perhaps with the emphasis on a lot. You are going to cover a lot of miles, and ride some wonderful roads, many of which you'll wish you could spend more time on. You'll also miss a lot of great roads and I expect you to get some responses telling you that you can't miss such and such a road (a list is building in my mind right now). You'll wet your appetite to come back and ride more of Utah, and I hope you do it.
I assume that when you get to Torrey, UT you are heading west on 24 through Hanksville and then north to I-70 to take you back to Colorado. You will go right past Goblin Valley State Park. I'd ride out to the park, get off your bike and hike around in the hoodoos for a while. It's pretty neat and I've never seen anything like it anywhere else.
Also, along highway 12, you'll come to Boulder, UT. Follow the signs for the Burr Trail. It's paved for quite a ways and is quite gorgeous. You'll ride through a canyon that's a little bit like being in Zions canyon (which it seems like you're skipping). There are a couple of little canyons where you can get off and hike into them.
Southern Utah is going to be hot this time of year, so if you can, ride early -- rest mid-day -- and ride some more in the evening.

I posted the link above of the pics of our trip couldnt get them to load up on this site so the link is to wal-mart.com to all of the pics we took. We changed our route some. We cut out wyoming and south Dakota and stayed in colorado springs a couple extra days at the end of the trip and rode up pikes peak a day a went white water rafting a day. We did go down Hwy 12 in Utah and it was one of the best roads I have ever been on if not the best. 4600 miles total and the only bad weather we had was in Kansas rain on the way out and extreme heat on the way back. Can't wait till my next trip.
