Default Las Vegas to "4 Corners"

I am planning to ride to “4 Corners” sometime this summer. Can anybody recommend a nice route to take, I prefer to stay off of the highway as much as possible. I will be departing from Las Vegas. For those who have been there before can someone provide information on a nice place to stay in or around "4 Corners"?

Personally, I'd stay in Cortez, CO. There isn't much around the 4 corners area. Cortez is only 40 miles away and is the largest town in the area. Plenty of motels and places to eat.

You could also check out Mesa Verde Nat'l Park from Cortez. If you're really adventurous, go ride US-550 from Durango north to Ouray. The section between Silverton and Ouray is the famous "Million Dollar Highway".

If it were me, here's the route I'd take from Vegas to Cortez. You will be on I-15 from Vegas to St. George UT, then secondary routes the rest of the way: For some reason, this site keeps corrupting my links.

Basically, you take I-15 N to St. George, then Hwy 9 E to Hurricane, UT. At Hurricane, take 59 E (becomes 389 in AZ) through Kanab UT to Page AZ. At Page, take Hwy 163 E to the junction with Hwy 160 then to Kayenta AZ. 160 E will take you to Cortez.

160 takes you through Monument Valley, which has some of the most breathtaking vistas on earth. I've ridden all over this area and am quite familiar with it.

Hope this helps...

My question OP is how many threads do you have to post on the same thing?

We've been out that way a few times and it's HOT in the summertime!

The last time we rode in the southwest we did it in late September and it was a much better ride.

If you have an opportunity, be sure to try the Indian Fry Bread!
