Once you get past Chicago you could pick up Rt 20 near Rockford, IL and run it to Chadron, Nebraska and then take Rt 385 north towards Rapid City.
Regardless of which route you take, IMHO it's a pretty boring ride for a long ways and the scenery doesn't really change until you get near the Badlands.

Hmmm. Probably have a point. I still like to see what other states have to offer. Any must see stops?

That depends on what interests you.
If corn fields and highway are on your list you'll have two to three days to indulge yourself.

Once you get to South Dakota you have the Badlands which is as it implies, but also south of Sturgis you have Mt. Rushmore and the Crazy Horse Memorial's and of course the Black Hill's.

Take rt 6 thru Pa and Ohio. Rt 6 is Grand Army of the Republic Highway and it used to be "the road" before rt 66. Lots of great scenery.

Gotta agree with PFWiz. 6 is a nice ride. Where in PA are you? Maybe you don't wanna go that far north, to go across 6.

Rte 6 out until you hit the Mississippi River then follow it north to LaCrosse Wi. ( very nice scenery along it) cross the river in LaCrosse then head north along the western shore of the river until you hit Rte 14 take that across MInnesota and South Dakota to the badlands then on into Sturgis Black Hills etc etc etc
