Default Snowshoe, WV (pic heavy)

I realized that I hadn't posted any pics from last year's rides so here is another thread. In July of last year a buddy of mine and I made the ride from NC to Snowshoe, WV. I do this ride at least once a year -- lots of great riding in that area.

First stop: Wytheville, VA for a fill up

Riding up 219 to Snowshoe

Approaching Cheat Mountain with Snowshoe Village barely visible at the top.

After checking in and dropping the bags off, we headed over to the Green Bank Telescope. So THIS is why there is no cell service in the area!! I love the contrast of the barns with the telescope in the first pic.

The next day we rode to Cass and took the train up to Whittaker Station.

After we got back to Cass, we hopped on the bikes and rode the length of the Highlands Scenic Highway.

Sunday morning and time to head home, but not before I snapped this pic of Snowshoe Village

We took 219 to Lewisburg, where we hopped on I-64 West to Beckley and caught I-77 South. We stopped at Grandview just before getting on I-77.

If memory serves me right, when you leave snowshoe turn right. Then right again on main road and there is an irish pub after a few miles on the left with great food and better beer called brazenhead. Used to have live music a few nights. Awesome place to stop

Lots of interesting roads in that area. Back Mountain road runs from Rt 250 (NW of Durbin) to Cass where it intersects 66. Take a right on 66 toward Snowshoe then left back on the southern part of Back Mountain Rd to Edray, just north of Marlington. Take it easy on this road, it's mostly a lane and a half wide and pretty curvy, but an enjoyable WV road.
