Could take 219 to Elkins, then take 33 thru Seneca Rocks and Franklin over to 220. South on 220 to 250 and then over to Staunton.Pics are from Rt 33. Not really a bad ride in the area tho. By the way, Staunton is in Virginia, not WV.
I remember venturing south out of Oakland md on to Rt219south we ended up at the huge windmills at the ridge but I didn't see any gas stations. Will we find gas / lodging along these routes if we need it?
Elkins is a fair sized town with motels, fuel, restaurants, etc. Franklin has food and gas. Other little towns along the way will have gas and food as well. Just have to plan how far you want to ride in a day.
Parsons WV has the windmills although i think they've spread to a lot larger areas. Parsons also has some gas stations, i know the Sheetz station there has 93 oct gas, i just got some the other day. Like Duraglide said Elkins is your best bet for lodging etc.
Planning a ride this summer, thinking Rt 219 to Rt250 through WV. Suggestions?
If you're going to Staunton VA (BTW pronounced "Stanton") I would suggest taking 219S to Thomas WV then continue straight on Rt 32 through Davis to Harman. (This is a better ride and bypasses Elkins which is a good thing IMO.) At Harman take Rt 33E/28S past Seneca Rocks to where 33 and 28 divide, turning Rt to stay on 28. Follow 28 which will intersect Rt 250 just east of Bartow where you'll turn left on 250S and follow it into VA and Staunton. This is a nice ride.
There are plenty of places to stay near Deep Creek and Oakland on 219, and in Davis on 32. Also a couple places at Seneca Rocks but not much past there until Staunton.
