I would highly recommend Nashville over Memfo.

If you are coming down I-57, cut over to paducah via I-24 and then head south in the Land Between the lakes.

Nashvegas is a great place especially on weekends.

Come across the Bridge from ARK catch 61 south, grab some Bar B Q at Interstate BBQ, then continue south to the Casinos in Tunica MS

I'll be rolling into Graceland from the East this summer. How's that area for sh@t holeness?
I,d think being a tourist magnet that Graceland is it would be a safer area...is it?

We did the Graceland thing about ten years ago or so one spring break. It did not seem to be that bad of an area from what I remember. I got us a room at the Peabody as I had always heard of it and seen the ducks on TV. Pretty cool. Nice place to stay. Went to Rendevous for some BBQ. A couple of blocks to Beale Street.

Chicago to Deals Gap is a great ride. Not that far and well worth the trip.

On packing take less than you think you need, you will most likely buy a t shirt or 2 on your trip. Make sure rain gear is packed and hope you don't need it. An extra pair of sunglasses always a good idea. We rode to Tennessee last year, did 650 miles the first day and then on into Gatlinburg the second day. On the way back dodged storms and did stay in Memphis while there where some sketchy areas we did enjoy Beale Street and would like to revisit one day.

Some day you need to come ride Southern Illinois, Western Kentucky, and Southeast Missouri. There are a lot of great places around that are closer to Chicago than you might think.
