Im 6' 1" and the Heritage Softtail Classic is the choice for me. I really looked hard into the Road Kings and wanted one but the motor vibration at idle got my eyes opening! I know it smooths out after giving it some gas, but the Softail runs perfectly. Bags were a deciding factor as well - I prefered the hard bags, but after talking to a few friends, the softail was it!

Good Luck!

Suggestion - before making the purchase, rent one of each, then decide. It might be the best money spent, and you will know which one fits you the best.

You see lots of guys that trade up into the Touring line. That's usually where it ends. You rarely ever see a guy trade a Touring bike for a Softail. There's a reason....If you plan on traveling, riding, two-up, and carrying heavy loads, get the Road King.

If you want your old lady bitchin about the bumps in the road, get the soft tail.

I'll debate that handling part. Lean angles are 26/29 for the Heritage vs. 30/32 for the Road King Classic. They weigh nearly the same....725 dry for the Heritage vs. 732 for the RKC...Yet, the Heritage only has a single disk front brake compared to the RKC's dual's. Then the big kicker.....The reversed triple tree makes the RKC and all the other Touring models far superior in low speed handling compared to the bikes with traditional triple trees.

I'm 6'5". Have owned a Heritage, now a Road King. Love em both. Comfy on both. Like the Heritage for the in-the-bike feel. The Road King for its ride and rubber mounted versus counter-balanced engine. Both havetimeless styling. It really will come down to what tugs at your heartstrings a little more, and I echo the suggestion to take each one out for a ride.

Good comments......

Low speed handling - I don't really care about "parking lot" riding. If you feather the rear brake at parking lot speed, the Softail handling if fine.

IMO, on the road, the Softail handles great - I test rode both the RKC and FLSTC before buying.

I'm 6'6 and have a RK Custom. Fits me fine. I didn't really ride the RK or the Heritage prior to purchase and I heard that the Heritage was a couple inches smaller. I had my mind set on the RKC so I got it and I like it.
