20 is a state highway that runs through the pine forests of northern Florida. Very few towns and people along the way. Almost all rural. I think Blountstown is the largest town you go through and I am guessing Blountstown has less than 7000 people.

If you like riding in the country, you will like the route.

SR 20 is a nice ride. My suggestion is to drop off of I-10 at either Exit 70 (SR 285) or Exit 85 (SR 331) and head south. 285 will bring you into Niceville and 331 will bring you into Freeport. Niceville traffic can get a little heavy in the afternoons due to Eglin AFB traffic, and there is construction in progress just north of town. Other than that, no real issues. There is construction on 331 north of Freeport. I rode it yesterday with no problems. Ride safe.

Thanks Jonesee and Vic, based on your advice I've decided to take SR20. De Funiak Springs was mentioned previously and sounds like it might a good place for breakfast and then take your recommendation Vic shooting down sr331.

I'll need to make time in order to get back to work and didn't want to go I-10 both ways. I appreciate your input.

btw Vic, my brother was stationed at Eglin back in the day but never got the chance to visit him when he was there.

Nice call Iron Butt Pete. Enjoyed reading the posts guys. Don't mean to hijack your post but while you all were on the subject I thought I'd ask. The wife and I are going to try a New Orleans trip the first week in June. Once in New Orleans we'll take a two day ride to Tallahassee and then back to our home port in Missouri. Any suggestions on where to stay a night along the coast at about the 1/2 way point between New Orleans and Tallassee.

Another question. The rout i want takes me through Eglin AF Base on Hwy 98. Looks like an open to public highway. Can I get through there without any hassle?
