Dade County closed all toll gates. They now use cameras that reads your plate and sends you a bill. No reason to have a SunPass anymore. If his luggage happenes to block a portion of his plate...Oh Well......
The worst that will happen to a tourist is you might get stopped and asked to move any obstruction to your plate.

As for a side trip to the airport: Straight off the turnpike in to the airport and then straight back on the turnpike. Resist all inclination to jump on US1 east of the airport and take it south out of the city to the keys. There isn't anything to see on that stretch and the traffic is a killer.


And a bar in Key West that is 10:1 women to men. I hope you remember the name. I am down there a lot and don't know it. (well there is this 1 strip joint off Duval...)

 

HogFish Resturant on Stock Island where the locals go!! Kind of hard to find but well worth the ride. Right at the docks.

You have to stop at Big Pine Key and go to, No name place for Conch fritters. Best fritters in Fl. Dollors bills stalled all over the place. Ya gotta stop and see this place.

 

Mangrove Mama's at mile marker #20 Sugarloaf. Great food. You won't be disappointed.

 

Porky's in Marathon for beer and a piece of deep fried Key Lime pie....it's on the right heading to Key West just as the road goes from 2 lanes to 1...heading out of Marathon.....

 

+ another one on the no name pub. definitely explore as many keys as you can too.
keys fishery on marathon is another one that's worth a stop if you're there for a few days.
of course all the bars and tourist stuff on key west itself.


it sounds like it's too late but west palm is the best place to fly in and out of in south fla. at least imo
