The Kamper Kabins at the Deadwood KOA are cool and reasonable. I've stayed there a few times and will stay there again.

 

Since you say you are going the week before the rally, you should have no problem getting a nice room for under $100. per night. From our experience I would not concern myself with staying in Sturgis the week before as it will still be fairly quiet. Deadwood & Rapid City will be the most active and Rapid will have many room options. Keystone also has some nice hotels like Presidents View for less than $100. per night.

When a mentioned Rapid City, a small ma & pa hotel I have stayed at was Big Sky Lodge which overlooked Rapid City on Mt. Rushmore Rd./Hwy 16. Don't overlook trying sites like hotels.com as you may find low rates for the dates you will be there.

 

If you are looking for a deal on any goodies for you or your bike, the week after is best for that because many vendors want to unload their stuff and not haul it home. Lodging should also be less expensive afterwards. Just a thought. Hope you have a great trip whenever you go.

Hey I have 2 nights booked at Dollar Inn Hot Springs Aug 6 - 8 FOR SALE one room with 2 queen beds for under $300. This is my first trip to Sturgis driving up from Dallas Tx. If anyone knows someone who would like to purchase these let me know.

Reason I am selling is my buddy purchased more expensive ones near sturgis, so I no longer need these. It really is a great deal for 2 nights, so pass the word let me know if anyone is interested.

 

Pup tent+dirt road+ pasture+ really pissed off land owner = Not worth it

Take a tent + sleeping bag and stay in one of the many KOA or county campgrounds for $20 or less a nite.

 

Just booked a room in Keystone, SD $134.00 per night it is about 40 miles outside of Sturgis.

 

You migh want to check the rates at motels in Hill City, SD (near Crazy Horse & Mt.Rushmore.
We've stayed at a couple of different places through the years.
One was the Bavarian Inn Motel (605) 673-2802.

 

Chief Motel in Custer SD. Week before prolly bout $100/nite with breakfast vouchers for the local diner. Good reviews!

 

Good luck being in the area a week before the rally. It’s the 2012 Hells Angels convention in Spearfish.
